Dahlia #1575

Casual Botanical Snapshot

Dahlia

Botanical Identity: Dahlia — Dahlia pinnata. Known for its distinctive layered petals.

Field Journal Entry: Today, I saw a vibrant dahlia with such striking orange and yellow hues mingling across its petals. It was right there, sharing space with a marigold and a petunia, a burst of warmth among the greens.

King James Verse: “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” – Isaiah 40:8

Fascinating Facts & Folklore: Dahlias are native to Mexico and have been cultivated by the Aztecs long before being introduced to Europe. They symbolize elegance and dignity in the language of flowers.

Traditional Uses & Global Customs: Historically, dahlias were grown by the Aztecs for food and decorative purposes. Although today they are primarily ornamental, their tubers were once a food source.

Care & Safety Cautions: Dahlias thrive in well-drained soil with plenty of sunlight. Though they are generally safe, pets might experience mild gastrointestinal discomfort if they ingest the plant.

📍 Explorer Note: In today’s bumble I found the Dahlia near Carle Place, NY.
